Who is DR. D SPORTS

I) About DrD Sports
The "Key" to profits with "DrD" can be summed up with one letter, "E".
That’s right, E, as in EMOTION. The Doctor’s formula for success is significantly different than that of
the majority of handicappers you may have been familiar with. I consider myself a "jock" having
competitively played three sports (football, baseball and basketball) in my younger days, and continuing
to play hoops at a competitive level as many times a week as I can manage. This personal experience
lends a tremendous insight into the mindset of the collegiate and professional athlete. The sports that
I follow (NFL, MLB, NBA, CFB, CBB) are loaded with exceptional athletes. The saying ‘On any given
Sunday... ’, goes deep into the core of my handicapping process. That is, if all teams have exceptional
athletes, what makes it possible for one to dominate another on any given Sunday, or M-T-W-Th-F and Sat, for
that matter? Though your mind may now be running through such symbols of success as Bill Parcells, Red
Auerbach, John Wooden or Joe Torre, the answer is not coaching, though there is no doubt that good leadership
is essential to overall success, just as good handicapping is essential to overall success. Joe Torre is an
excellent manager who wins somewhere near 65 % of his games each year. But in case you’ve forgotten, that
also means he loses 35% of those games as well! A similar analogy exists for a good handicapper, which I
consider myself to be. You can’t win them all. But we’ll try, and in the process come out on top when
it’s all said and done.
So let me demonstrate the "Key of E" with a couple of real-life examples from the past few
seasons which I’m certain most of you will remember... even though many of you may not want to.
1) It was Sunday 11-23-03. The Dallas Cowboys played host to the red-hot and soon-to-be Super Bowl bound
Carolina Panthers. An intense, high-energy affair ended up 24-20 in favor of the Cowboys. In news reports in
print and on television, an emotional and proud Coach Bill Parcells rambled about the courage and resolve of
his team after gutting out a hard fought win. Rarely, if ever, does one see or hear the Tuna spew such praises
upon his troops. Up next on the schedule for the ‘Boys was a Turkey Day tilt with the Miami Dolphins. Of course,
every one knows it’s tough to beat the home team on a Thanksgiving afternoon. Especially when that home team is
the same Dallas Cowboys squad who had just flexed their powerful muscles at Texas Stadium over the aforementioned
Panthers. Well, the Miami Dolphins came to town an underdog that Turkey Day and absolutely crushed the head-swollen
Cowboys 40-21, much to the delight of the DrD Sports loyalists. Coaching or EMOTION?
2) On Friday 1-3-03, in a Fiesta Bowl many people call one of the greatest games in college football history,
Ohio State, a two touchdown underdog, upsets the defending national champion Miami Hurricanes in a double-overtime
instant classic. The Buckeyes relied on a tenacious defense that forced five turnovers and stopped the potent
Miami offense on three consecutive plays from the one-yard line in the second overtime to claim the school’s
fifth consensus national championship. Maybe some DrD Sports followers went to the windows with their eyes
closed in making the play, but we collected with smiles on our faces as we took the Buckeyes on the ML and with
the points. Coaching or EMOTION?
3) On 4-17-04, the ’04 NBA playoff season began for the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers. You may recall
the ’03 NBA Playoff series (and as a long time Celtics fan, I certainly do) when the Celtics shocked and
ousted the Isiah Thomas coached Pacers as huge underdogs. Well the clock turns for all, and the 2004 NBA season
was a most memorable and EMOTIONAL one for the boys from Beantown. You see, the Pacers had their way with the
EMOTIONALLY drained Celtics, winning and covering four straight games to send a painful payback reminder to the
"green team". DrD Sports remembered as well. And though it wasn’t easy to bet against "my team",
I did so in four straight games with confidence and little regard for the line. Coaching or EMOTION?
4) Yet another example comes from the 2002 World Series where we can use baseball to demonstrate what it means
to "get hot". Watching the last few weeks of the regular season and early post season gave me a more
focused look at the hot hitting Anaheim Angels. Though it’s said that good pitching beats good hitting, you
couldn’t help but see a team on fire. With the public favoring the side of Barry Bonds and the SF Giants,
we took a Series bet on the Angels, another underdog, and worked the games one by one. Here you have yet another
manifestation of EMOTION. When a team gets hot and believes in themselves, you either go with the flow, or stay out
of the way when they’re playing in the "Key of E"!
Now you know what I am looking for on a day in and day out basis. By calling on the competitive athlete within,
I project myself in the uniform of the teams that are competing against each other and look for the psychological
and EMOTIONAL edge that may, or may not, exist. An important point to be aware of in this process, and one that
separates me even further from my colleagues, is that the odds maker’s line plays a very minor role in my
decision making process. Will that cost us on occasion? Sure. But everyone takes a bad break, just as everyone
gets a good break no matter what your style may be.
II) Who is DrD Sports
The title of Dr. is one that I’ve earned, not one that has been chosen as a marketing tool. I’ve put in many
years of study to earn the B.S. and D.V.M. degrees and have been intimately involved in the Thoroughbred racing
industry at its highest levels both as a veterinarian and manager of some of the world’s finest racehorses.
High profile races such as the Arlington Million, Hollywood Oaks, San Juan Capistrano, Bowling Green Handicap and
Yellow Ribbon Stakes are but a few of the major victories earned by equine athletes under my care and management.
As a long time horse player, I have learned that patience and selectivity are crucial in producing financial
success. The same can be said whether dealing in the stock market or in sports investing. Though I may be a
"relative newcomer" to the public sports arena, I have been very successful for a number of private
sports investors who have encouraged my participation with Who2BetOn. |
